Appointment of Major General (Ret) John F. Wharton to the Board of Socrates Capital Group
We are honored to welcome Major General (Ret.) John F. Wharton to the Socrates Board, filling the vacancy left by the passing of Dr. Hauke Brede. General Wharton’s distinguished Army career included leadership of the Army’s global research, development, engineering, logistics, and sustainment commands — organizations charged with stewarding some of the nation’s largest and most mission-critical defense portfolios and budgets. In those roles, he directed tens of thousands of personnel and guided multi-billion-dollar programs tied directly to the nation’s technological edge, force readiness, and strategic security priorities. His reputation as a trusted partner to the Department of Defense and allied governments reflects decades of success aligning innovation with operational needs.
In addition, General Wharton will serve as Chairman of the Investment Committee for a new Master Fund of Funds being established. His leadership will ensure that capital is deployed with the same discipline and mission focus that characterized his stewardship of the Army’s largest programs. Under his guidance, Socrates is positioned to support public-private collaboration on many initiatives on breakthrough technologies, infrastructure, and funding coordination of governments.. He is widely known in the U.S. Department of State and the United Nations for his work in support of humanitarian assistance, sustainable development goals, nation building, peacekeeping, and peacemaking operations. This appointment underscores our commitment to serving as a trusted partner to U.S. government, agencies and foreign counterparties continuing these initiatives.
Edwin Ball
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer,
Socrates Capital Group
